Paula Dunn
The weather and its impact on the landscape plays a significant part in my work. I like to play with combinations of colours, textures, and expressive marks to create mood, atmosphere, drama. At times my landscapes are almost abstracted.
My work has been featured in book designs and I am a contributing artist to the award winning Waymaking – an anthology of prose, poetry and artwork by women who are inspired by the landscape.
Paula lives and works in Saltaire, West Yorkshire. After a career in higher education Paula returned to painting fifteen years ago and in 2017 she studied with Rebecca Crowell in County Mayo, Ireland. Here she was introduced to a range of techniques using oils with cold wax and her work has since moved from representational landscapes to the more abstract, atmospheric landscapes that are based on a memory and colours of a place. Over the years Paula has developed her studio practice, incorporating new techniques as she continues to develop her skills and expertise in oil painting. She has developed workshops which introduce people to the joy of working in oils and now coaches artists who want to further develop their creative practice.
