Michele Bianco

The starting point for my work is always walking and sketching. I'm inspired by the forms, patterns and textures in the world around me and the rhythms of nature. The recording and passing of time through erosion and human interaction is something that is at the heart of my work. Tidal rhythms, geological time, growth cycles, seasonal changes and our understanding of these changes are all elements that I try to capture in my pieces. My work takes time. It is all hand built, shaped, manipulated and carved over several days. This 'time in making' and my enjoyment of the process are central to the nature of my work. 

After initially training in Architecture, Michele realized she was much more interested in hands-on making and studied Fine Art at Leeds College of Art and the University of Northumbria. She set up and ran a gallery and picture framing business in North Yorkshire for 10 years before taking the leap into full-time creative work in 2013. Michele studied for a Diploma in Glass and Ceramics at the National Glass Centre and have since been working from her studio, initially in North Yorkshire and since 2017 in the North West Highlands where she has built an off-grid eco-house and studio.
