My childhood summers were spent in the countryside – this was my “greatest art academy” that instilled a special sensitivity to nature in me. The natural world is my inspiration and I discovered a technique to combine dried plants with pastel backgrounds. I wish my works to draw attention to the importance of loving and observing nature with a sense of wonder and awe. I create mainly in the winter, when vegetation is dormant as I strive to give a second life to plants that are visible symbols of beauty by the invisible Creator. They open a glimpse to paradise on Earth.
Laima is an artist from Ukmergė, a small town in Lithuania. She creates graphic works that transform wilted and dried vegetation into ephemeral structures that emerge like Fata Morgana in subtle pastel backgrounds. Metaphoric gates, boats and natural landforms are often populated with clearly recognizable human figures that are created through an unalltered form of a single petal. Her work is deeply poetic and spiritual, yet, very easy to relate to. It could be compared to a dream - one minute seemingly real another, vanishing into uncertainty with emotion that is often difficult to verbalize. Laima has had more than 30 solo exhibits in Lithuania and also participated in mixed shows in Latvia, Poland, Germany, Italy and France and Japanese-Lithuanian art projects. For 10 years she has participated and organized an annual symposium on non-traditional use of flax in art.
