Julia Linstead
I have always found the most seductive quality of crystal (glass) is its ability to trap and manipulate light, and the subsequent effect this has on mood and attitude. Form and pure colour combine with light to project the piece beyond its physical boundaries. However controlled my input into the design is, I can always be surprised by the finished effect.
Julia was born in Birmingham in 1966 and studied at Sunderland Polytechnic, graduating with BA in glass and ceramics. She initially set up her studio in Sunderland in 1989 but moved to Coldstream, Berwickshire in 1992. In 1991 she was awarded a Gold Medal by the Prince's Youth Business Trust and in 1992 was awarded 1st Place New Designer Gift Award by the Giftware Association. Julia’s unique etchings mostly focus on floral patterns that are carefully selected according to the shape and colour of vessels and vases hand-blown by Jane Charles, with whom Julia collaborates.
