Ian McNicol
Scotlands landscape has a major influence on my work. The changing skies and west coast light on the fields, treelines, seascapes and distant shorelines is a constant source of inspiration. Using the medium of Etching, with its technical challenges and physicality of the processes are an essential part of the creative process.
Ian McNicol was born in Paisley in 1965. He studied Architecture for 3 years at Glasgow School of Art then Technical Graphics & Illustration. A further 10 years were spent in professional practice with a firm of architects while taking a series of evening classes at the Glasgow Print Studio in Etching. Ian currently works at Glasgow Print Studio as Master Printer, Etching Tutor and Technician and works with contemporary artists such as John Byrne, Barbara Rae, Ken Currie and Eileen Cooper. He won the London Original Print Fair prize in 2015, for his etching ‘Red Versus Blue”.
