I’ve lived in Scotland for most of my life and I’m continuously inspired by its ever-changing landscape. The expansive skies and patchwork of fields in East Lothian are a continual feature in my work. Windswept Land is a dialogue with this scenery over Winter and Spring where the fields turn from rugged browns into a sea of green grasses and cabbages. Treading over the deep red earth and wandering round the textured fields always offers something interesting to take back to the studio. This is the time of year where I feel most inspired – as the days become longer and the promise of summer is on the horizon. It is often a season of blustery, cold weather which is bracing but clears the mind and offers a glimpse of warmer days to come.
My work explores the human impact on the world around us and the marks left in traces over time. I paint in acrylic and incorporate hand painted collage papers – referencing my training in printed textiles. I studied textile design at the Scottish College of Textiles, graduating in 1999. I’m currently studying a Masters in Fine Art at Falmouth University.
