Anna S. King
The natural world offers endless scope and impetus to my creative imagination. I forage for materials, to collect that which has been discarded by Nature, and given new life with a little help using some simple craft-based skills. Each place where I gather yields its own inspiration - historical, mythological, geological, botanical, seasonal. The collected remnants render their own sense of location, a sensory language where a total response to simple materials starts the process.
Anna had a burning ambition, from the age of seven, to be an artist. She studied and trained at Gray’s School of Art (Aberdeen) and Edinburgh College of Art. Anna has taught various traditional and experimental weaving techniques - cloth, tapestry and basketry, as well as paper-making and books. Her recent repertoire has embraced constructed and mixed media experiments.
