Rona has been a member of Edinburgh Printmakers for more than a decade where she produces her screen prints, etchings and mezzotints. Rona's recent mezzotints have been of ghostly birches. The contrast of dark and light lends itself to the process in which one tries to exploit the rich, velvety black that can only really be achieved in the mezzotint. She often adds an embossed element to these prints. Trees frequently feature in her multi layered and colourful screen prints too. The colour separations are always hand drawn.
Rona MacLean grew up on Loch Lomond side where her love of the natural world was fostered. Alter a career teaching History in a large Fife high school, she took early retirement to concentrate on painting and printmaking. She has completed courses at Leith School of Art, Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh Printmakers and The Open College of the Arts. Rona exhibits regularly in and around Edinburgh. Her paintings and prints have been shown in a number of open exhibitions including the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA), the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) and the Paisley Art Institute (PAI). She also has work on a permanent basis at Edinburgh Printmakers.
