Inspired by my love of wandering, drawing and daydreaming by the coast, I hand build ceramic vessels influenced by the sea, beaches and cliffs around Wales and Scotland. Shapes are figurative featuring vivid turquoise glaze that reflects the influence of the sea and landscape; or tactile, washed pebble forms. The most recent body of work has been developed from drawings of ancient objects, tools and rock carvings found in coastal regions of Wales and Scotland. Resulting work includes hand-held artefacts with markings - rounded like pebbles and vases with carved images. I have deliberately left my fingerprints on the small glazed forms.
Kirsti set up her first workshop in 1996 in Chester after graduating in 1993 from the BA Hons Crafts course at Crewe and Alsager College. She now works from her home in North Wales, combining her time with delivering workshops, employment as a part time DT technician and being mum to two girls. Kirsti's work has been displayed in galleries across the UK from the Isles of Scilly to the Shetland Isles.
